New Roots Cooperative Farm is looking for a Marketing Coordinator for our new farm in Lewiston, Maine.  New Roots is a four-person Somali Bantu farmer cooperative.  We moved to our new 30-acre farm in 2017, after farming for 10 years on an incubator farm.  

The Marketing Coordinator will work with New Roots Cooperative Farm to grow our marketing programs and will oversee the existing marketing for New Roots including our CSA customers, wholesale accounts, and farmstand.

New Roots currently runs a 120 member CSA with deliveries throughout Southern and Central Maine and sells at various farmers markets. The cooperative is expanding sales to wholesale customers like institutions, restaurants, and small grocery stores and by building a new farmstand on site in Lewiston.  

This position is largely based on New Roots’ land in Lewiston. Some opportunities to work remotely are available, but candidates should expect to spend a significant portion of their working hours on or around the farm.

The job entails:

  • Establishing CSA Marketing Systems
  • Communicating with CSA Customers and sending out surveys
  • Communicating with wholesale customers
  • Developing new markets for New Roots farmers
  • Helping farmers to set up a farm stand at New Roots Cooperative Farm
  • Supporting farmers accessing farmers market
  • Communicating with farmers and customers on vegetable availability and orders
  • Working with farmers to ensure proper food safety and food quality
  • Helping farmers with record keeping
  • Putting out monthly newsletters
  • Communication with partner organizations and other service providers.


  • Computer literate including word processing, web usage, database management skills, google docs and basic graphic design skills.
  • Comfort with Facebook, Instagram and Website management.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Experience farming or in food production is preferred.   
  • Marketing and sales skills.
  • Reliable!
  • Experience working with diverse communities, particularly immigrants and refugees, is preferred.
  • Experience working with people who speak English as a second language is preferred.  Ability to speak Maay Maay (Somali Bantu language) is a bonus.
  • Understanding of food quality and food safety.
  • Experience with markets in Maine is preferred.
  • Reliable Transportation is a must

Note: The Marketing Coordinator will need to use their own computer for this work and may need to work out of a home office at times.  

Training will be available for the right candidate.

Time Commitment:

This is a part-time position for approximately 20 hours a week.   The position will start in January and will last until at least October with a goal of a year-round position. 

Compensation: $15-20 per hour.
